Pastor’s Blog 9/28/07

First let me say, it was Dr. Max Barton rather than Dr. Max Straub that preached our afternoon service last week. Now on with the new blog.

1Cor 10:12 “Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.”

Eph 5:15 “See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,”

These two verses have taken on new meaning to me.  Let me tell you a funny story about me.  Last week I was planning to take care of an ant hill that was right outside of the church on the edge of a main walkway that enters the building.  I had recently heard a preacher tell about how his mother would boil water and then pour it onto the pile to get rid of the ants.  So I decided to try it.  I got a large pot out in the church kitchen and began to boil some water.  It boiled for nearly twenty minutes before I went to carry it out.  I was all prepared to totally destroy those little ants, after all I am bigger, smarter and faster than they are.  I picked up the pot with the hot plate holders and started for the door.  Everything was fine until I stepped from the carpet in the fellowship hall to the tile floor in the hall way.  My foot hit a damp spot on the floor and suddenly I was falling boiling water and all.  By the grace of God I did not dump the water on myself, but threw it forward instead.  I went straight to the floor and landed right on my pride.  Boiling water went everywhere.  I am not sure who it scared the most me or my two oldest boys who were right behind me.  They began to yell “Get up dad, get up!”  And due to a very hot floor I took their advice.  Needless to say I thought of the two verse above immediately.  Praise the Lord the only injury I received was a 2 inch square burn on my arm, trust me it could have been much worse.

Now to the spiritual side of the story.  Isn’t life just like that sometimes we are careening along at high speed prepared to take care of some small problem that is no match for us and BAM we are on the floor and in hot water.  We need to be sure that we acknowledge God in all of life’s situations whether great or small we need the Lord.

So take heed to your need, which is to always seek the Lord’s help in all that you do.  And as you walk through this life walk circumspectly.  That means to watch your step, Satan would love to make you slip and fall and end up in his “hot water.”

See you Sunday!

What a blessing!

The 8th Aniversary/Homecoming Sunday here at CIBC was great.  Thank you for being here to be a part of it.  I know some could not make it and we missed you, but I am sure your prayers were with us.  We had 235 for the main service and raised nearly $8000 for the debt retirement offerring.  We keep chipping away at it and God keeps blessing us.  To add the the blessings of the day the Lord gave us 6 folks come who came forward to join the church and two teen age boys came for salvation, PRAISE THE LORD!

The afternoon service was also a tremendous blessing with Dr. Max Barton preaching a wonderful message titled, “What’s Right with the Church.”  WOW!  I sure was blessed by it.  We also had special music by the Smith family and even thought they did not get to sing the “Preacher Song” they were a real treat.

Well, I better close for now.  I hope to see you Sunday, please pray for God’s blessing on the services and pray for me as I prepare and preach.

Pastor CutshawFaith Is the Victory

That was the title of the sermon I heard on Monday evening at the Eastern North Carolina Sword Conference in Greenville, NC.  Pastor David McCoy was the guest speaker.  He is the pastor of a good church in Georgia.  He gave 3 points about where we get faith and three points about the rules of faith.  They were a tremendous blessing to me and I hope they will be to you as well.  I have listed them below.  By the way you will get much more out of this if you will look up the verses.

Three Sources of Faith

  1. God - Eph 2:8-9
  2. God’s Word - Rom 10:17
  3. God’s Man - Heb 13:17

Three Rules of Faith

  1. Faith is not logical. Heb 11:1
    • Noah built a boat before it had ever rained.
    • Abraham looked for a city and had no idea where it was.
    • Abraham offered his son.
    • Moses mother putting her son in a basket and floating him down a crocodile infested river.
  2. Faith is not comfortable. Heb 11:13 & 32-38
  3. Faith is not negotiable. Heb 11:6

It is never as good to read as it was to hear, but I trust the Lord will still be able to use this in your life as He did in mine.
